Baby Gear - July 2007

Apologies to everyone who check my blog occassionally looking for an update. There have been so many times where I've felt compelled to write but just couldn't find the time. But to make it up to everyone, I'm working on a "how to" make baby food entry. I've taken some pictures of the process but I'm thinking I might actually video tape it and put it up so everyone can get a visual of all the steps. So be on the look out!

But in the meantime, here's some cool baby gear that you all may find useful for your babies or babies to be.

High Chair -

When Christian was just months old, I was still in a state where I wanted the most innovative, coolest, hippest and most expensive baby gear available. Now, I realize that that was just plain stupid. I had my heart set on the Flair High Chair by Boon. Not just the standard version but the Elite version. Why the Elite? Because the Elite had the cool orange backing whereas the Standard just came with a plain white backing. For $200 more, my baby could eat in modern style with the cool orange backing. Totally worth the extra $200, right? Oh and did I mention that this $399 high chair has a very cool pneumatic lift feature so you can adjust the height of the seat? See, totally worth the money. Thankfully though, this chair wasn't available on the market when it was time to put Christian in a high chair. Otherwise, we'd be $400 poorer while my kid would be styling in his State-of-the-Art chair.

Here is what I settled for.
The IKEA Antilop High Chair for $18.99. AND... for $5 more you can get the matching tray to attach to the high chair. This chair is fantastic folks. Clean up is a cinch and if it gets too dirty to clean, hey, just buy another one. Sure, it doesn't have the cool orange backing or the awesome pneumatic lift feature but it gets the job done. And it's modern, simple and sleek style won't make your house look all tacky like those big bulky Peg Perego or Graco high chairs. Besides, before you know it, your kid will grow out of the high chair and will want to sit in his/her own "grown-up" chair.

Eating Out - I just bought this yesterday after seeing a friend of mine use it at a Dol this past weekend. One of the best purchases I've made so far. This Booster Seat by Fisher Price is awesome. It attaches to virtually any chair and it comes with it's own little table tray. There's also 3 different height settings and for older babies, you can remove the green backing. For a mere $24.99, it's totally worth the money. I bought mine at Target yesterday because I needed to use it last night at a restaurant. But you can get it at Amazon for a couple of bucks cheaper and it qualifies for free shipping. Amazon is also having a special offer through Shutterfly where you get a free 20-page casual photo book if you purchase the seat by August 15. Soooo worth it. And you can even use the seat at home!

Grocery Shopping

I've had alot of inquiries about my high chair/grocery cart cover. It's by a company called Cuter Than a Duck's Butt. I did a ton of research before I finally decided with getting this cover. It's plush, easy to wash and fits virtually any cart/high chair. Although it's a bit on the pricey side, if you're a germaphobe like me, this is a must-have for your trips to the grocery store.

Floor Mats

We have hardwood floors. Christian has had more than his share of accidents on them. I've been meaning to get some play mats but everything out there is so ugly. You've all seen the infamous, ugly, bright-colored interlocking Alphamat or something like it. *Barf* Who the hell wants this thing laying around in their living room?

Well, thanks to the folks over at Skip Hop, we modern parents now have an alternative. Coming in August is the new Skip Hop Playspot.

It'll be available in 3 different color schemes and you can preorder yours at Amazon.

Costing $79 for 20 tiles, the interlocking shapes allows you to create a mat to your room's dimensions. I'm planning on ordering 2 sets since our living room space is pretty large. I love the colors and the mod design. I can't wait to get this!

There are more things that I want to post but right now, I must tend to my baby. If any of you have discovered any cool, useful products, please share! I'd love to hear about them!

Not a real post

This isn't a real post. I just need to dump this out of my head and document that now that Christian is 1, he thinks he must prove it to me by having his very first and very real TANTRUM! on Friday, May 11, 2007. Omg, and I can't staaaanddd it. He's driving me insane! I have such a love / hate relationship with him right now. He's been so whiiiinyyyy and arches his back and throws his head back...and all I want to do is just leave him on the floor and walk away and escape back to the carefree days where I didn't have so many responsibilities - where my biggest worry was what to eat that day or what to wear. *sigh* I'm just in a funk...

Sometimes, being a parent SUCKS ASS.

Anywoo....Happy Mother's Day, y'all. Mothers - we are sometimes so under appreciated. We give so much to our children and sometimes, all we get back is yet another fun-filled day full of changing dirty diapers, feeding, and cleaning. Booo!!! So, I hope that y'all get whatever it is you want for Mother's Day. Whether it be a day off, a new purse, jewelry or whatever it is that makes y'all happy. As for me, I think I'm going to ask for all of the above. *nyuk*nyuk*nyuk* ^_^

YSL's Downtown Bag in White/Ivory

I tried on this purse yesterday when the hubby, the kid and I were roaming around in Beverly Hills searching for a birthday gift for the MIL's 60th. This picture doesn't do it justice. It's actually really really cute. It looks good on me. I think I should get it. But I can't justify myself to buy a purse - what's the point? I should save that money and start a college fund. Or use it to buy a piece of furniture. Hubby offered to buy it for me right there on the spot - but I got scared. So he said to sleep on it and if I still wanted it that we'd get it. I still want it. BUT like I said, I shouldn't. I have a kid now. I shouldn't spend money frivolously. I have a kid now. I shouldn't get it, right?

Anyways...sorry for the lack of posts people. I miss blogging. But, the kid takes up most of my time. He's getting cuter and cuter...and bigger. Did I mention how cute he is? His 1st birthday is in 2 months. Holy cow! 2 months! I still need to order invitations, order cake, finalize menus, do gift bags for the kids, order dduk, get hanbok, take 1 year family pics, and create a slide show. Yeah, I told the hubby that we needed to buy a Mac to create the slideshow - so we bought a Mac. I've gotten as far as reading the tutorial. I hope the slideshow comes out okay. We'll see...

I'm going to try and update more often. But these next 2 months is going to be extremely busy for me. So much is going on in our lives right now. I'm off to Park City, Utah tomorrow a.m. for a few days to surprise the MIL for her bday (I should be packing and not blogging), I've got a bday dinner this weekend when I get back, then a baby shower the following week, then hosting a bridal shower/bachelorette party the week after that, and then I have the kid's 1st birthday to plan and then be in a wedding next month AND throw the kid's birthday party at the end of next month. And I'm ovulating sometime in between all that. Yes, we're trying for kid #2. Wish us luck!! Since we're planning for kid #2, we're looking to move - to a house. With a yard! Hopefully with a pool! And more bedrooms! And bathrooms!

Well, there you have it. A quick update of our life. I'll post some updated pics when I get back. Oh! And look out for some new baby gear reviews - I've had to buy a bunch of stuff to take to our trip so after I use it all, I'll be back to post my thoughts and recommendations!~ ^_^

Christmas Eve 2006

Dear Christian,

Tonight is Christmas Eve. We went to your grandfather's cousin, Daisy's house to spend the day with family. You played with your cousin Caius and your grandparents and sang Christmas Carols and we all had a good time. You've been sick with strep throat the past few days but that hasn't stopped you from being your goofy self. Crawling around, pulling yourself up with whatever furniture you can - then letting to go to see if you can balance only to find yourself flat on your cute little round butt.

Here is a picture of you and Caius. He had a bowl of crackers that you kept snatching from him. You probably get that from mommy - you bully.

When we got home tonight, you took a bath, put on your pjs and as you were nursing, you let out a big fart and we both laughed.

What I'll remember most about this Christmas Eve is the way you were in my arms with your head resting against my chest in your dimly lit nursery. As I was about to put you down in your crib for the night, you lifted your head up to look at me and gave me the sweetest kiss and rested your head back against my chest. So I held you for awhile longer - to soak up the moment. That was the best Christmas gift I could have ever asked for. Thank you my baby. You bring more joy than I have ever known. I am so proud to be your mommy. I love you.

WARNING....CUTENESS OVERLOAD!!~

No, this isn't a costume...it's a furry bear suit that Christian will be wearing when we go pick out a Christmas Tree!~

But I had him try it on to make sure it fit him...

Don't say I didn't tell you so...

Absolutely frickin' ADORABLE!

To see even more cuteness in action...watch this video of Christian at a wedding we went to a few weeks ago. I'm still trying to learn how to put streaming videos on my blog - I'm using a beta version of Blogger so it seems like they haven't gotten the kinks out of that option yet. So, in the meantime... click here and enjoy: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5755802488800833561&pr=goog-sl

I have a few minutes before my little monster wakes up from his nap....

I was in the bathroom reading my Parenting magazine and there was this article that a mom had written about the value of slowing down to your child's pace (because in this modern age, everything seems to be about how quickly we can get things done). She writes, "An hour with a small child can drag like a whole day, and a day can feel like a week. But the weeks melt into months just like that."

So very true. I can't believe Christian's going to be 6 months soon. He's ready to eat his first solid meal. It's scary and exciting. There are so many "firsts" that he'll be experiencing and I love that I get to be a part of them. My little munchkin is growing up so fast!

BabyLegs are legwarmers for babies. They make diaper changing a cinch and keep your baby's legs warm since you don't have to take any pants off.

Since winter is just around the corner, I ordered them for Christian. Aren't they adorable?! And, I think they'll be great for when he's crawling around to protect his precious little knees.

The new Double Bag by Yves Saint Laurent
Fashion Week Daily reports:

"The dual handle, fully reversible bag is accessorized with a few rings of gilded metal, closed by a leather thong which can be reattached to either side of the bag, and enhanced by a wide over sewn Y-shaped seam in gradient shades. Made of smooth Indian leather from Madras, known as Mercurio, the skin is tanned with chrome and then coated with a metallic leaf to achieve the anthracite or bronzed effect."

Ben bought it for me on my birthday to use as a diaper bag. I must say, I love it. The leather is soft and the purse is extremely light. And the best part is it's reversible! I got the black / anthracite. The picture shown above is the Brown / Bronze.

Here's a pic of my favorite celebrity mom Gwen Stefani toting around her son Kingston James and her YSL Double Bag...

But keeping things organized in your purse is a challenge. Especially when you're mixing up your makeup bag, teething rings, burp cloths, cell phone and wallet. So, I got me a purse organizer from Purseket.
I got the medium size one but I think I need the large so I'll be ordering another one this week.
